About the Artist
This business began as Bokeh & Paint…
Why Bokeh & Paint?
Bokeh - bo·keh /bōˈkā/ the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image, especially as rendered by a particular lens... What many people know it as "when the background is blurry".
If you don't know, photography has always been a huge passion of mine. When I was younger I dreamed of being a fashion photographer in New York...But let's be honest, I can't go that far from my family or live in busy place like that!
Paint - Do I really need to define that?
Painting was definitely NOT my first passion. To be honest, I hated painting...Why? Because I was scared of it. You can't erase it. Which made me think everyone would know when I messed up. I had a professor in undergrad encourage me to just try. So I did, and I never looked back.
I first learned Acrylic and Oil painting. Soon after I learned more about liquid watercolor (my new favorite). Liquid watercolor was a huge challenge after knowing how to handle acrylic so well. I was determined to learn, and I'm glad I did.
I ran my business focusing mainly on painting and photography for many years. The more I created, the more I wanted to try new things. I love to learn new things, no matter how frustrating and overwhelming it can be sometimes. My business was slowly evolving into way more than just painting and photography. Someone asked me at a market what my passion was, and I realized it was no longer just photography – if you asked me that same question 10 years ago, I would have said photography in seconds. Now, it is creating…creating and designing all things.
That brings us to the new business name.
Highland Rose
I needed and wanted a business name that didn’t hold me in a box of just painting and photography. Will I continue to do both of those? Absolutely, but I plan to continue venturing into a wide range of mediums and creative outlets.
I bounced new name ideas around for about a year with my husband, family, and closest friend. No matter how many names I thought of, Highland Rose continued to be at the top of the list. Why Highland Rose? Those that know me probably know I love Highland Cows – who wouldn’t, they are so cute! Highland is also the name of beautiful mountainous lands – my husband and I love our day trips to the mountains. Then for Rose, all things floral have become my favorite things to paint and draw.
A few more random things about me:
I am a wife to the most supportive and loving husband, a momma to the cutest little boy, an art teacher, artist, and fur momma.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio and a Masters in Art Education
I have taught Visuals Arts now for 10 years.
I am constantly learning new things about art and looking forward to the next thing I get to create!
